History

Blaze Entertainment built the Evercade VS as a home-console companion to its original Evercade handheld, keeping the same cartridge library while adding a television-connected form factor. The system was originally slated for a November 2021 launch, but global supply chain disruption pushed the release back, and it ultimately reached European shelves that December before following in the United States in February 2022. Blaze priced the console at for the starter bundle, undercutting most of its retro-focused rivals at the time.

Unlike the battery-powered handheld, the Evercade VS outputs 1080p via HDMI and was the first Evercade system built to support four controllers simultaneously. Backward compatibility remained a priority: nearly all cartridges built for the original Evercade handheld also work in the VS, letting early adopters carry their existing library straight over to the new hardware.

Library Highlights

Rather than shipping with individual games, the Evercade VS launched alongside a set of licensed multi-game cartridge collections spanning several classic publishers, giving new owners instant access to dozens of licensed retro titles at once.

Collector Value

The Evercade VS is a relatively recent release, so complete-in-box units in working condition are still common and affordable compared to older retro hardware. Collector interest centers more on amassing the growing library of licensed cartridge collections than on the console itself, since cartridges from Blaze’s ongoing release schedule can go out of print. Sealed consoles and early-run bundles carry a modest premium, but loose, tested units remain the most widely available and budget-friendly way to get into the platform.

Buying Guide

Before buying a used Evercade VS, confirm the seller includes the original power supply and that both cartridge slots read discs correctly, since a stuck or unresponsive slot is the most common hardware complaint on this system. Ask whether the bundled Evercade VS controller is included and functional, as third-party USB pads are a common (and often preferred) substitute if it isn’t. Check which cartridges are bundled in the listing, since the console alone without any cartridges has limited out-of-box value.
